The National Center for Remote Sensing and Geoinformatics „GIS-Centras“ (SE „GIS-Centras“) is the State Enterprise, responsible for update and distribution of the national official geographic databases. It also maintains national reference databases, projects, implements and technically supports complex geographic information systems, develops cartographic visualizations.
SE „GIS-Centras” is in charge of management and development of the Lithuanian Spatial Information Infrastructure portal (www.geoportal.lt), national reference base cadaster, development of new spatial information web services. The enterprise is developing a geographic information services based on the cloud technology. Development of training center in the field of geoinformatics, aerial photography, remote sensing and scientific research together with applications and engineering is also planned as important future activities of the enterprise.
The main strategic directions of SE „GIS-Centras“ are:
To become a national center of geographic information integration;
To provide the official geographic information data sets of high quality and reliability, to promote synthesis of data;
To develop new added value geographic information products and services, that are compliant with the market needs.
The specialists within the organization have profound knowledge in the most up to date geographic information technologies, are well informed about the data handling, stakeholders’ involvement and capacity at governmental and municipal institutions. They have an experience implementing GIS projects of various complexities, organizing in-service training courses, orientated to different fields of geographic information use.
