GDB200

Territory covered by GDB200

General information

Lithuanian Geoinformation Data Base GDB200® is created on the background of topographic maps, using GIS technologies. GDB200® compilation works were started in 1992, version 1.0 was released in 1993 and it is constantly revised and updated while using the most recent graphic and text information. Version number 2.5 is distributed at this time.

GDB200® can be effectively used as the background for publishing thematic and topographic maps of the Republic of Lithuania, also for creating thematic geoinformation data bases. Vector data is open for any addition with attribute or graphic objects.

GDB200® covers the whole territory of the Republic of Lithuania and the part of neighbourong countries territory delimited by the parallel 53°50’ and 56°40’, meridians - 20°30’ and 27°00’, the whole area is 100.6 thousand square kilometers.

Compiling GDB200 the following additional cartographic material and text information was used:

  • The map of Lithuanian relief at scale 1:300000, 1988;
  • Cadastre of Lithuanian rivers by J.Jablonskis, M.Lasinskas, 1962;
  • Index of proper names for the Lithuanian rivers and lakes, 1963;
  • The Lithuanian Atlas, 1981;
  • Statistics Lithuania. Number of inhabitants in counties, cities and regions, 1st of January, 2001.

Fragment of GDB200

Data

GDB200® is open for creating additional information layers and putting new objects, it is easily joined with the user’s attribute data bases.

Coding and classification of data is organised according to the existing classifications, cadastres and registers of geographic objects. The following classifications were used for the minimum attribute information to compile: “Specification of Integrated Geoinformation Systems’ Geodata (InGIS) “ approved by the Minister of administration reforms and municipality affairs by the order No 46 on the 25th of April 2000 and by director of the National Service of Geodesy and Cartography under the Government of the Republic of Lithuania with order No 32, 25th of April, 2000 (now it is the National Land Service under the Ministry of Agriculture ).

Mathematical background

Geoinformation data base GDB200® is based on the Lithuanian co-ordinate system of 1994, that is named LKS-94. Relief is prepared in the Baltic height system.
